MAYSVILLE, Ky. (Mason County Post) — Maysville City Commissioner and Mayoral candidate Robert Boone said his family has faced “hateful slander” and coordinated efforts to damage his reputation ahead of the November election, according to a Facebook post he shared publicly.
Boone, who was appointed to the Board of Commissioners in July 2025 to fill an unexpired term and later filed to challenge incumbent Mayor Debra L. Cotterill, accused a small group of individuals — including at least one person connected to city government — of seeking police records on him and his wife with the intent to harm them.
He stated that a public records request was filed May 19 with the Bowling Green Police Department for all police records involving him and his wife. Boone said the request was made “indirectly by an individual who operates in an official capacity with the City of Maysville.”
In July, Boone said he was warned that “they are out to destroy you.” He learned of claims alleging domestic violence and other false gossip. According to Boone, the group was twisting a single police report in which he is mentioned and planning to circulate “flat out lies” to damage his character before the election.
Boone said he filed his own open records requests with the Bowling Green Police Department and the City of Maysville seeking the name of the requestor and the specific records sought. He obtained that information and then filed an identical request for the records himself.
The only report that turned up, he said, was a domestic violence report from eight years ago. Boone described the incident: while living in Bowling Green, he saw two strangers — a man and a woman — screaming and hitting each other on a sidewalk near his home after a Western Kentucky University football game. He called police and is listed on the report solely as the “caller.”
“I did the right thing. I stopped a violent situation from getting much worse,” Boone wrote. “These stalkers are so desperate to keep me out of office that they are twisting the report to say that I beat my wife.”
He emphasized that a records search on his name yields no mugshot, no DUIs, no arrests, and no other police reports — “Certainly, no domestic violence.” Boone said he is proud that the only entry shows him trying to help someone.
Boone also addressed separate allegations of sexual harassment, calling them “absurd.” He said he has not communicated with the person making the claims in nearly three years and had only minimal contact before that.
“I am making this post to set the record straight and to clear my name,” he wrote. “If you have heard or seen these stalkers spreading slander against my family or me, then please send me a message. I will not engage in the sort of mudslinging that they have shown themselves capable of, but I will also not stand by while they hurt my wife and children with their vicious gossip.”

“ My sweet family has experienced the brunt of hateful slander this election. I’m thankful for friends who alerted me to the plans of self-called “leaders with integrity” to spoil my name with current vicious gossip, plans for written defamation, and blackmail.
On May 19th, a public records request was filed with the Bowling Green Police Department requesting all police records for my wife and me. This request was made indirectly by an individual who operates in an official capacity with the City of Maysville with the intent to harm my family.
In July, I was made aware of a small group of people with the warning, “they are out to destroy you.” It was then that I learned of slander against me claiming domestic violence, among other false gossip. Later I learned that this group was twisting a police report where I am mentioned in addition to conspiring to circulate flat out lies in an attempt to destroy my character right before the November election.
Almost immediately, I filed my own open records request with the Bowling Green Police Department and the City of Maysville requesting the name or names of individuals who have requested public records for my wife and me, along with a listing of the records they were requesting. After all, the requestor’s name is now a public record itself.
Along with the name of the requestor, I was able to see what specific police records they were seeking to weaponize against my family. Upon accessing their request, the awful reality of all this set in for me. Seeing my wife’s name, my name, and our former Bowling Green home address where we raised our family listed on a request like this by someone with a clear intent to harm felt like stalking.
My next step was to file another public record’s request on ourselves with the exact same wording the stalker used when they filed. There was only one report. It was a domestic violence report. Eight years ago, I saw a man and woman who were complete strangers to me, screaming and hitting each other on the sidewalk near our home after a WKU football game. I did the right thing. I called the police. I stopped a violent situation from getting much worse. My name is listed on the police report as a “caller” and these stalkers are so desperate to keep me out of office that they are twisting the report to say that I beat my wife. Despite that, I can be proud that when someone conducts a public records request on my name, they only find me trying to help someone—for being the “Green Dot.” No mugshot. No DUIs. No arrests. No other police reports. Certainly, no domestic violence.
There is other slander against my family that these stalkers are involved in including allegations of sexual harassment. This is absurd since I have not communicated with the person falsifying these allegations in nearly three years, and very minimally before that. I am making this post to set the record straight and to clear my name. If you have heard or seen these stalkers spreading slander against my family or me, then please send me a message. Boone described the records request listing his wife’s name, his name, and their former Bowling Green address as feeling “like stalking.” He said he has “many people in my corner” and expressed confidence that Maysville voters “can see beyond these frauds who are completely unfit for public service and who fall a mountain short of what it takes to ‘lead with integrity.’”
The 2026 Maysville mayoral race is nonpartisan. Boone, who holds a doctorate in education from the University of Kentucky and has a background in nonprofit management and workforce development, faces Cotterill in the November general election.
Boone’s Facebook post did not name the individual responsible for the claims. Independent verification of the identity of the requestor(s) have yet to be released.
