NWS Confirms EF2 Tornado Touched Down in Maysville Kentucky
MAYSVILLE, Ky. (Mason County Post) — Thursday, June 18, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF2 touched down in Mason County.
This was the second confirmed tornado in the Tri-State region that morning. Earlier an EF2 tornado touched down in Franklin County, Indiana, before weakening into an EF0 as it moved into Butler County, Ohio.
An EF2 tornado on the Enhanced Fujita scale indicates significant damage with estimated winds between 111–135 mph. This event aligns with a broader severe weather pattern affecting the region.
The storm primarily caused downed trees and power lines across much of the area. However, more heavier impacts were seen in specific locations.
Kibler Lumber, a local lumber yard serving the community for 60 years, sustained heavy damage. In ongoing discoveries of the destruction during cleanup, debris scattered in patterns suggest that swirling winds were hitting from multiple directions.
Hundreds of residents lost power, and additional reports from the area described damaged homes, downed trees, and debris in multiple neighborhoods like Hill City Road, with impacts extending toward the river and affecting a campground where campers were flipped.
Importantly, no injuries were reported across Mason County despite the intensity of the storm. Mason County Emergency Management did not sound the tornado alarms during this event.
Residents and officials continue cleanup and recovery. Those affected are encouraged to contact local EMA for assistance.
