MAYSVILLE, Ky. (Mason County Post) — Two people filed as write-in candidates for the General Election, according to the Mason County Clerk’s Office Facebook Page.
Max Moran filed to run for Justice of the Peace in District 2, and Bryan Helphinstine filed to run for Justice of the Peace in District 1.
Moran previously ran for Mason County Judge Executive in the May primary, where he received 436 votes and tied with Peggy Frame. Both finished behind Eric Bach, who received 1,090 votes and won the Republican nomination.
In Kentucky, a Justice of the Peace (also known as a magistrate) is a constitutionally required elected office. In counties such as Mason that use the commissioner form of fiscal court, the position no longer carries judicial powers. Remaining duties are limited and primarily include performing marriages when authorized by the County Judge Executive or the Governor, along with accepting applications for notaries public.
Both Moran and Helphinstine filed as write-in candidates, which means their names will not be printed on the ballot. Voters who wish to support either candidate must write in the name.
Monday, August 24, was the final day to file as a write-in candidate. November 3 is General Election Day in Mason County.
